Imasha Thia

Imasha joined the litigation group after completing her articles with Kahane Law Office, primarily with the Civil Litigation and Family Law groups.  Imasha is exposed to the many practice areas offered at Kahane Law, allowing her to work on diverse files with fantastic mentorship from our senior lawyers.  Imasha has a well-rounded and strong foundation to her legal career, with Kahane Law Office being a full-service firm. She also completed an articling rotation at a Big Four firm, gaining experience in Corporate Immigration Law and working on multi-national corporate files.  Imasha is an active member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association.

As a litigator, Imasha is passionate about providing excellent client service and persuasively advocating for her clients.  For Imasha, the most rewarding experience has been the ability to use her skills in helping clients.  Building rapport and maintaining relationships are some of Imasha’s greatest qualities and she has carried these traits with her in every aspect of her life.

With her extended family residing in England, Imasha attended law school in London; the experience was incredible, both personally and educationally for her.  Studying abroad, the classroom debates provided international perspectives – strengthening her ability to see problems from many different points of view, breaking it down and finding workable solutions for all sides.

Legal Volunteer Work

After graduating from law school in London, UK, Imasha returned home, an Albertan at heart.  She was actively involved at both Calgary and Edmonton courthouses with Pro Bono Law Alberta.  Through the Court of Queen’s Bench Amicus Program and Provincial Court’s Civil Claims Duty Counsel, Imasha assisted low-income individuals who were self-represented with small claim matters.  It was during this time that she realized her passion for litigation and was hooked.

Imasha strongly believes in providing Albertans with access to justice, as evidenced by her experience with Calgary Legal Guidance, Edmonton Community Legal Centre, and Pro Bono Law Alberta.  She plans to continue volunteering and helping marginalized Albertans get access to justice throughout her legal career.

Life Outside The Law

Some fun facts about Imasha: she is a former WestJetter, and has traveled extensively around the world.  She hopes to continue her travel adventures post-COVID.  Imasha is a serious foodie and you will often find her dining (safely) at many of Calgary’s must-try places.
