Melvin Marin

Melvin is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School LLM program. Prior to completing his LLM, Melvin attended University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, and earned a Bachelor of Laws from Catholic University Andres Bello in Caracas, Venezuela. During his legal studies, Melvin assisted low income clients with a wide range of legal matters. He also he completed studies of French as a Second Language L’Université du Québec à Montréal.

Melvin has gained significant experience in Canadian immigration including NAFTA and Intra-company transfers, study permits, work permits, permanent residence, and citizenship applications.

Prior to joining Kahane Law office, Melvin completed articled at a family and immigration boutique law firm in Calgary, where assisted clients with spousal and child support matters, custody and access issues, uncontested divorces and separation agreements.

Before relocating to Calgary, Melvin worked as an immigration analyst with Guberman Garson LLP Deloitte in

Toronto, where he assisted with Federal Court litigation and a wide range of immigration services to clients from various industries, including engineering, hospitality, and information technology. Melvin also worked as a policy analyst and project officer with Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada. In these roles, he supported the Government of Canada Visa Application Centers, and conducted legal and policy research to assist in the development of programs designed to assist foreign- trained workers across Canada and Asia.

In addition to his legal experience, Melvin worked as public school teacher in Atlanta, USA, and was named educator of the year in 2008.

Melvin is a proud Canadian with family roots in Venezuela, Brazil and even Portugal. Melvin is fluent in English, French and Portuguese.

Outside of the office, Melvin can be found hiking, mountain biking, ice skating, or just enjoying an independent movie or trying exotic food in one of Calgary restaurants.
