Vanessa Tsai

Vanessa was born in Hong Kong, raised in Calgary, and speaks fluent Cantonese. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society with Distinction from the University of Calgary in 2014 receiving Dean’s List placement.  In 2018, Vanessa earned a Juris Doctorate with Distinction from the University of Alberta where she graduated on the Dean’s List and achieved First Class Standing.

Vanessa practices primarily civil litigation and appears before the Alberta Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench on small claims, residential tenancy, debt collection, business dispute, estate dispute, contract breach, defamation, foreclosure and insolvency matters. She also assists with various corporate matters including incorporations, asset and share purchase agreements, acquisitions and drafting agreements. Further, Vanessa represents clients in residential and commercial real estate transactions.

While completing her law degree at the U of A, Vanessa worked as a Research Assistant to Professor Linda Reif, CN Professor of International Trade. Her research focussed on international business transactions, trade law, foreign direct investments and human rights. During her studies, she volunteered at Student Legal Services assisting low-income Albertans in civil litigation and family matters. Vanessa was actively involved at her law school and competed in the Client Consultation Competition, the University of British Columbia Environmental Negotiation Competition and was a member of the Asia Pacific Law Students’ Association.

Prior to joining Kahane Law Office, she worked as a Summer Student in a Hong Kong law firm garnering a wealth of experience under the umbrella of corporate commercial practice. There, she worked on multijurisdictional files relating to shareholder disputes, corporate litigation and real estate law. Vanessa is committed to assisting her clients reach cost-effective and efficient solutions.

When not at work, Vanessa enjoys flipping properties, trading stocks, exploring Calgary’s culinary scene and travelling. She has travelled to Australia, China, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand and hopes to visit more countries in the years to come.
