Vanessa was born in Hong Kong, raised in Calgary and speaks fluent Cantonese. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society with Distinction from the University of Calgary in 2014 receiving Dean’s List placement. In 2018, Vanessa earned a Juris Doctorate with Distinction from the University of Alberta where she graduated on the Dean’s List and achieved First Class Standing.
Vanessa assists with various corporate matters including company incorporations, asset purchase agreements, purchase and sale of shares, acquisitions and drafting various contracts. Further, she assists with residential and commercial real estate files where she conducts title transfers, drafts purchase agreements and rent-to-own agreements, and assists clients with selling and purchasing property.
While completing her law degree at the U of A, Vanessa worked as a Research Assistant to Professor Linda Reif, CN Professor of International Trade. Her research focussed on international business transactions, trade law, foreign direct investments and human rights. During her studies, she volunteered at Student Legal Services assisting low-income Albertans in civil litigation and family matters. Vanessa was actively involved at her law school and competed in the Client Consultation Competition, the University of British Columbia Environmental Negotiation Competition and was a member of the Asia Pacific Law Students’ Association.
Vanessa joined Kahane Law Office as a Summer Student in 2017 and returns as a Student-at-Law. Prior to joining the firm, she worked as a Summer Student in a Hong Kong law firm garnering a wealth of experience under the umbrella of corporate commercial practice. There, she worked on multijurisdictional files relating to shareholder disputes, corporate litigation and real estate law. Due to her past experiences, Vanessa firmly believes that there is more than one way to advocate for your client and it need not be in a court room setting. Coupled with over 10 years working in the service sector, Vanessa is committed to providing unparalleled customer service and assisting her clients in reaching cost-effective and efficient solutions.
When not at work, Vanessa enjoys flipping properties, trading stocks, bonds, and commodities, exploring Calgary’s culinary scene and travelling the world. She has travelled to Australia, China, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand and hopes to visit more countries in the years to come.
