Sepand Asefi firmly believes that the more legal knowledge he has, the better able he is to serve his clients. After completing his law degree, Sepand furthered his legal education by completing an LLM (Legal Masters Degree) in International Business Law. He completed his Masters at a French University, while living in Lyon, France.
Prior to joining the litigation team at Kahane Law Office, Sepand completed his articles at a busy Calgary Family Law litigation practice focused on high conflict matters. Sepand strikes a balance between empathy and firm advocacy to help ensure that his clients are supported and properly represented at each stage of what can be the most trying and difficult process of their lives. While good natured, Sepand enjoys seeking out success for clients facing high conflict situations.
Sepand has successfully represented clients before the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench; he has also resolved numerous matters without litigation. These successful negotiations often lead to a better outcome at a lower cost for his clients. Having experience with both high conflict and negotiated settlements, Sepand knows the value of resolving legal matters effectively and efficiently through negotiation and settlement processes, where possible and appropriate. In his practice, Sepand emphasizes a client-centric approach focused on translating client needs to favorable legal results.
Sepand draws on a diverse range of experience to provide solutions tailored to his clients’ needs. While completing his JD at Thompson Rivers University, Sepand worked as a research assistant to several professors on contracts ranging from the Judicial Review chapter of the 8th edition of Gus Van Harten et al, Administrative Law textbook to submissions by the Canadian Indigenous delegation to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Sepand also successfully competed in a national moot and summered at the TRU Community Legal Clinic where he worked with clients on a breadth of matters including tenancy disputes, adult guardianship, and estate planning.
Since graduating law school in 2018, Sepand has delivered lectures on administrative law, spoken at international trade conferences and symposiums, and has remained active as a consultant for various start-ups and non-profits. When Sepand is not helping his clients or pursuing his interests in business, he can be found cycling, kayaking, or expanding his skills as an amateur wine maker.
Sepand is fluent in English, Farsi, and French. As a result, he is happy to assist clients in their preferred language.
