Jacalyn Symonds
Jacalyn Symonds was born and raised on the prairies in a small town in Manitoba. Prior to moving to Calgary for law school, Jacalyn lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for 5 years. She graduated with Distinction with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Upon obtaining her undergraduate degree Jacalyn was honoured with membership bestowed to only 10% of university students and admitted to the to the Phi Beta Kappa Honour Society which is one of the oldest and most prestigious honour societies. She also was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honour Society as well as the Golden Key Honour Society where she was an active volunteer in many community endeavours during her undergraduate years.
After moving back to Canada in 1997, Jacalyn graduated from the University of Calgary Law School where she enjoyed her 3 year law program and further continued to volunteer with organizations such as the Mustard Seed and Inn from the Cold in Calgary. During law school Jacalyn was an active member in Student Legal Assistance which is a pro-bono legal clinic that provides legal information and representation to low-income clients. Jacalyn made many Court appearances of behalf of clients during her 3 years of study before formally becoming a lawyer. Jacalyn was proudly called to the Law Society of Alberta Bar in 2002.
After articling, Jacalyn’s practice developed in the areas of Residential and Commercial Real Estate, Condominium Property Law as well as Foreclosures. She thoroughly enjoys all aspects of property law and has worked closely with property management companies in the area of Condominium Property Law. Jacalyn also enjoys working in a thriving and fast paced real estate practice and is particularly involved in working closely with clients and realtors and mortgage brokers to provide a positive real estate experience.
In her spare time Jacalyn enjoys socializing, including cooking with friends and family. She takes all opportunity to travel and in her youth spent 6 months in Colombia, South America as she was chosen as a candidate for Canada World Youth Program. She has also traveled extensively through Southeast Asia, Nepal and India as well as lived and worked for a time both in Australia and New Zealand. It was from these travels that Jacalyn has experienced many cultures and she values this greatly in the practice of law in our diverse Canadian culture. Jacalyn also places a high priority on family and is quick to engage in further travel with her family. Jacalyn also enjoys being outdoors in the sunshine and is often found camping at a lake or river with friends on weekends.
