Kristy R. Kalin
Born and raised in Calgary, Kristy was called to the bar in July 2020 and is excited to work with her talented colleagues at Kahane.
Kristy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in writing from the University of Calgary and is a proud graduate from Cardiff University in Wales with a Bachelor of Law where she was an active member of the community. Kristy served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Canadian Student’s Association, was a member of the Cardiff Rowing team, Creative Writing Club, and was selected for Firm Lead in the NHS Continuing Care Pro Bono program.
On return from the UK Kristy completed her Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee of Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and in 2018 worked with Max Blitt, K.C. to co-author a paper entitled “Reducing the Trauma of Child Abduction Proceedings for Children”.
Kristy articled at a full-service sole practitioner firm where she gained experience in civil litigation, real estate, personal injury, wills and estates and family law.
Kristy is aware of the stress and struggles that families face in dealing with separations and divorce, and she strongly believes in ADR and Mediation so families can focus on moving forward without conflict, and in strong advocacy for her clients when mediation is no longer reasonable. Kristy draws from her well-rounded experience in her approach to parenting, support, and property and has appeared successfully in both the Alberta Court of Justice and the King’s Bench of Alberta.
Life Outside the Law
Outside of work Kristy is an avid reader and writer and has been published in the Calgary Public Library’s Tap Press Read short story anthology and was a featured writer for the Loft 112 Inner City Stories.
Kristy can be found hiking in the summer and trying to garden, with some success.
