Melvin Marin

Melvin Marin combines his warm, personable style, extensive legal skills, and commitment to customer service to be a fierce advocate for every client. His focus areas are immigration, foreclosure, and general litigation. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

In the area of immigration, he works closely with clients in areas of NAFTA and Intra-company transfers, study permits, work permits, permanent residence, and citizenship applications.

Prior to joining Kahane Law office, Melvin articled at a family and immigration boutique law firm in Calgary, where he assisted clients with spousal and child support matters, custody and access issues, uncontested divorces, and separation agreements.

Before relocating to Calgary, Melvin worked as an immigration analyst with Guberman Garson LLP Deloitte in Toronto.  He assisted with Federal Court litigation and a wide range of immigration services to clients from various industries, including engineering, hospitality, and information technology.

Melvin has worked as a policy analyst and project officer with Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada. In these roles, he supported the Government of Canada’s Visa Application Centers, and conducted legal and policy research to assist in the development of programs designed to assist foreign-trained workers across Canada and Asia.

Melvin earned an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School. He attended the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and earned a Bachelor of Laws from Catholic University Andres Bello in Caracas, Venezuela. During his legal studies, Melvin assisted low-income clients with a wide range of legal matters. He completed studies of French as a Second Language L’Université du Québec à Montréal.

Prior to his legal work and education, Melvin was a public-school teacher in Atlanta, Georgia (USA). In 2008, he was named educator of the year.

Outside the office Melvin hikes, ice skates, mountain bikes, enjoys independent movies, and appreciates the many culinary delights at one of Calgary’s restaurants.
