Say Goodbye to Chaos and Uncertainty
Whether you are a sub-contractor in the “oil patch” or in the construction industry, or you have a full-fledged business, big or small, your business solves a problem. You’re in it everyday. You’re finding a better way or making a better “thing”, and that takes creativity, focus, and energy – even when everything is going smoothly. But there always seems to be something else demanding your attention and problem-solving skills. Equipment breaks, an employee quits, a customer complains, your GST return is overdue, and you need to file your annual corporate returns. While we can’t solve all the challenges, we can take care of the legal stuff: annual returns, annual directors’ and shareholders’ resolutions (and other legal issues), freeing up your time.
Not sure if you need a Unanimous Shareholders’ Agreement? We explain what that is and what companies often use it for so you can decide whether or not you need one. Need a contract template? Employment Agreement template? We work with you to create one custom made for your business. Adding us to your team is like having your own in-house counsel. We’ll help you get your legal house in order so you can focus on running your business.

What Makes us Different? Communication, Education, and Cost Certainty
Communication:
The number one complaint that the Law Society of Alberta receives about lawyers is that they do not communicate with their clients, and when they do, it is not quickly enough. Our standard for communication is 2 business days. This means:
- When we receive information from opposite counsel or opposite party, we forward it to you within 2 business days;
- When we send information to opposite counsel/opposite party, we forward it to you within 2 business days; and
- When you contact us with a question or request, we respond to you within 2 business days. Of course, we may not always be able to provide the full answer to your question or satisfy your request that quickly, but if we cannot, we will give you our estimated timeline for response within 1 day of receiving the question or request.
This standard is not shared by others that practice Corporate Law – hence the number 1 complaint to the Law Society. We cannot control everything for you, but we do everything we can to complete our part of the process as quickly as is reasonable. To get started with us right away, submit the form above.
Education:
Almost all lawyers communicate with their clients through meetings or by email, which takes time (which the client pays for). As lawyers tend to be overworked, they often only have time to provide education on narrow issues as they arise. They simply do not have the time to always provide in-depth explanations about the law or administering an estate generally. We have created, and continue to create videos and in-depth written explanations about different corporate law topics, and provide these resources to you when you need them. You will be able to watch or read (and re-watch and re-read) in the comfort of your own home and on your own schedule. Because we have prepared these explanations beforehand, they are quite thorough (more thorough than we would be able to deliver on a cost-effective basis in a “live” meeting). Submit the form on this page to get started now.
Cost Certainty:
Corporate lawyers often provide a “flat fee” for some basic services, such as incorporation or preparing and filing annual returns. Most do not provide as many options as we have above. Also, you may need help with something besides starting your corporation and completing basic annual maintenance. For those services, most Corporate Lawyers bill for their services by charging “by the hour” in 6-minute increments. They then render your invoice at the end of the month based on how much time the firm spent on your matter. This can result in a very unpleasant surprise of a bill in the thousands of dollars, which can be devastating for a small business. We do not like surprises when it comes to legal fees. Because of this, whenever practical, we set the legal fees for your work BEFORE we start.
We prepare a ‘Scope of Work’ that details the next steps and associated fees. This eliminates the element of surprise. You get to see the price of the work before we start and you decide whether or not to go ahead with that plan. We use set fees for many Corporate Law legal services, including: Unanimous Shareholders’ Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Employment Agreements, and others. Contact us to get started.
