DUI Suspect Runs Himself Over

Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol should never be a laughing matter. A substantial number of people are injured and killed each year around the world by drunk drivers, and the laws need to be there to help protect people. However, there sometimes comes some cases that are going to incite something of a chuckle even though you might not want to admit it, and this is one of them. If you find it amusing, do not feel too bad about it.

The Very Bad Day

When someone is arrested for a DUI, it tends to be rather straightforward in most instances. The police pull the person over or they find them at a DUI checkpoint. They notice that the person is intoxicated, conduct a sobriety test, and make the arrest if they are drunk. In the worse case scenarios, someone is arrested after they have been in an accident. Then, there are times and incidences like this, which happened in Virginia to a man named Isaac Bonsu.

When he was pulled over by the police, it was not because of erratic driving or hitting anything. Instead, he was pulled over because his vehicle had an equipment violation. As soon as he was pulled over, it appeared that he panicked. He got out of the vehicle and he ran. However, he did forget one very important thing – the parking brake. He rushed out of the vehicle and in front of the vehicle, which then struck him.

While getting hit by your own vehicle because you are drunk might be enough to stop most people, Bonsu was not too fazed, it seems. He got back up and kept on running. The police caught him again after a very short chase, and he is now facing a number of charges.

First, he is facing the charge of having an illegal window tint, which is very likely the thing that got him pulled over initially. In addition, he was in possession of marijuana, which is another charge. This is the third drunk driving charge he has had, and he now has a felony hit and run on his record for running himself over. Legally, he is going to be dealing with quite a bit of fallout from this for a long time to come.

While there is certainly an element of humor to this, there is an element of sadness to it, as well. You would hope that someone would have learned by now not to get behind the wheel when they are intoxicated, but some people will never learn.

Even when they aren’t behind the wheel, they can end up being dangerous. There are other strange DUI cases, as well, where people have been arrested for driving under the influence when they have been on their bicycles and horses. Regardless of the type of transportation it might be, it always has the potential to be dangerous to everyone who is involved.
