This Weeks Wacky Wednesday: A Saucy Tale of Nuggets and Mayhem

A Saucy Tale of Nuggets and Mayhem

Have you ever been to a fast food place like, say, McDonald’s and thought that you might like some extra sauce for your 10-piece nuggets. Sometimes, they might throw in an extra sauce for you, and that’s a win. However, most of the time, they will charge for the sauces. It’s not much money, and most people will pay for the sauce, albeit begrudgingly. What most people don’t do is threaten everyone in the restaurant because they have to pay for the sauce.

Free the Sauce

However, Maguire McLaughlin is not most people. In early 2020, the 19-year-old Floridian woman was told that she needed to pay for the extra dipping sauces she wanted. She was not happy about that at all. She had rolled up to the drive-thru window at around 3:45 AM on New Year’s Day. Given the time and the day, it was no surprise that the workers said that she smelled like alcohol, slurred her speech, and had glassed-over eyes. Drinking can often make people act in ways that they probably wouldn’t otherwise.

McLaughlin ordered a large amount of food and then requested that she get one of each type of dipping sauce to go along with it. When the employee told her that they were 25 cents each, she became irate. In most circumstances, a person would pay or say that they didn’t want the sauces if they didn’t want to buy them. However, when alcohol is in the mix, normal situations can become messy very quickly, as is the case here.

She began to yell at the workers and then threatened that she would rob the McDonald’s and get the sauce by whatever means necessary. That’s not just hyperbole on our part, that’s what she actually said. When witnesses were asked, they said they had no idea what she meant by that, but it felt like a threat. It’s not often that you find someone so violently passionate about their dipping sauces, but as we said, Maguire McLaughlin is not most people. She’s the Liam Neeson of dipping sauce revenge.

Dip the Police

Naturally, the police were called to Vero Beach McDonald’s to help handle the problem. You might think that the arrival of law enforcement would bring some calm to the situation, particularly if she realized what she had been screaming. However, it didn’t calm things at all. Witnesses say that she would go in and out of coherence, where she would communicate with the cops one minute and then become belligerent the next.

It got to the point where she began screaming and yelling at them and refused to get into the patrol vehicle. Left with no other choice, they put her on the ground and used restraints. They were then able to place her into a patrol vehicle and bring her to the station for booking.

She was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence, which is a lesser charge than resisting with violence. McLaughlin was fortunate in that matter. She was later freed on a $1,000 bond and faced misdemeanor counts in front of the court. Alcohol can make people say and do some wild things. The fact that she was just 19 and shouldn’t have been drinking, or drinking and driving for that matter, is a problem that hadn’t been addressed in any of the documentation we’ve found on the matter.

Hopefully, she’s learned that sometimes, you just have to pony up a little bit of extra cash for those hot mustard and sweet & sour sauces.
