Andrea Swabuk-Moe

Andrea grew up in Burnaby, British Columbia and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology (with Honours) from Simon Fraser University. In 2006, she moved to Edmonton and obtained her law degree from the University of Alberta.  Andrea was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2010 and her early legal career focused on a general civil litigation practice. In 2011, Andrea began working with a boutique family law firm in Calgary and has practiced exclusively in the area of family law since.  In January 2017, Andrea joined Kahane Law Office as an Associate.

Andrea’s primary goal is to ensure clients receive the most helpful, efficient and cost-effective family law service available.   Andrea has experience in drafting prenuptial and cohabitation agreements.  Andrea understands that family disputes are upsetting for all of the parties involved, which is why she prefers a collaborative approach when assisting her clients.  While comfortable in the Courtroom, Andrea recognizes the need for customized solutions to achieve each client’s unique goals.  Despite all efforts, sometimes litigation is a client’s only option.  Andrea has appeared in Court many times and has experienced success before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal on a wide range of issues, including custody, access, guardianship, parenting and the division of common law and matrimonial property.

Andrea is a trained mediator and is available to assist parties in this role.  Andrea is passionate about resolving conflict for her clients and their families.

Andrea has had the privilege of working for and collaborating with some of the best family law lawyers in Calgary.  Maintaining these relationships with other lawyers in the community often result in efficient, positive and cost effective outcomes for her clients.

In 2014, Andrea presented on Advanced Child Support issues before the Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA).  For several years, Andrea volunteered with the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA), a non-profit organization which addresses the needs and concerns of immigrant and refugee women, youth, children and families, providing them with pro bono legal advice.  Andrea is a Member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association – Family Law Section.

Andrea has a wide range of interests outside of the law office, including traveling, wine tasting and spending time with her family.
